food for thought: breathe

To stay alive one must breathe out as well as in.

How many times do I take a deep breath and charge into something? It’s like bracing myself for impact. And so often, I forget to exhale. I forget to relax. I’m wound tight, coiled like a spring, and I stay that way. 

I think it’s such an ingrained reaction that I need to purposefully stop and engage in relaxation techniques. Something that I haven’t been so good at so far. Maybe that’s why I’m having anxiety attacks occasionally and in need of xanax.

When you inhale, be sure to exhale. When you tense, relax. 

Inhale. Exhale.

Inhale . . . Exhale . . .
