charging into august

On Monday, the Primal Blueprint Health Challenge starts up over at Marks Daily Apple (MDA) and it’s as good a time as any for me to get myself back on track. So, I will be joining the challenge. Plus I’m psyched about the free prizes available to win and I’m hoping I can get in on some of that action.

Last weekend I came across a post in the forum on MDA from a regular poster, Diana, who has lost (I think) around 100 lbs. She’s awesome and very possibly we’d be great friends IRL. She’s like the brother I never had with the willingness to kill a snake in the yard and turn around and skin it and cook it up for dinner (I’m definitely not at that stage where I’m comfortable skinning my own food – planning to go hunting this year though so…).

Anyway this post was a “throw down” to taking primal eating TRULY primal (no 80/20 rule, 100% all the way baby), Titled “Survival Week.”  I’m going to utilize these guidelines to get myself back on track…

  1. No alcohol, dairy, chocolate (or whatever your vice is.)
  2. Carbs below 50.
  3. IF one meal per day.
  4. Use only what you already have in your kitchen. No new groceries.

Okay, so it’s been a week since I looked at these and I’m realizing I’m totally unprepared. I’m going to need to run out and get groceries. And I think I’m going to hold off on the IF this week. I’ve been bad for 2 weeks so I’m going to be facing some fun carb withdrawals. So I’m going to face the challenge of keeping my carb intake to 50 g or less and refraining form eating my vices – namely chocolate.

I think I’m going to keep dairy in this week yet because there’s quite a bit in my fridge, but I’ll still need to watch my consumption because of its carb content. Thankfully it is as close to RAW as I can get.

So, here we go. I’ll be utilizing this blog as my daily journal for tracking my primal challenge. Happily my new iPod arrived and my Nike+ should be here tomorrow so I can keep working towards my army strong fitness goal.

*Guidelines as they were laid out in the Survival Week post by Diana.

Good luck on the challenge! I too have been following MDA (about 3 months now). Really enjoy it and can’t imagine going back to eating and living the way I was before. Just wanted to say hi and cheer you on!!
